Solana Name Service (SNS) is a group of experts in cryptocurrencies, analytics and engineering. Our expertise and focus are largely based on growing blockchain technology by enhancing the world of decentralized identities. Through our accumulated experience we have come to realize that a core component of identity whether on or off-chain is your name. That’s where the journey of the [SNS](https://www.sns.id/) began.

As advocates of web3, these names should be owned and controlled by you and their data to be distributed in a privacy-preserving way to authenticate reputations. Establishing web3 reputations, and similarly web2 reputations, requires a brand, familiarity, or some sort of likeness. With that said, we have carefully been developing SNS (decentralized naming) to allow you to create secure, pseudo-anonymous identities while still enabling people to form those positions of influence on-chain.

Although the DeFi phenomenon has seen great success there’s still a lot to achieve. For it to remain long-lasting and ground-breaking we need to work on mass adoption. We believe this is possible by finding a comfortable bridge from the web we know today and then ensuring ease of use when the bridge is crossed. Our product offers both.

# $SNS Token

$SNS is a community token by .sol holders for .sol holders. It was created to align the future of the Solana Name Service with its most frequent users, so that the .sol community can decide how to support participation, reward builders, and shape their own .sol experience.

## **Distribution and Supply**

The total supply of $SNS is 10 billion tokens.

$SNS distribution is focused on long-term community growth, with the majority of the supply earmarked for the community:

* 40% of total supply will be claimable by existing .sol domain holders, Solana communities and partners, and users of SNS.
* 20% of total supply is allocated to future emissions and SNS & Solana communities.
* 26.25% of total supply is for ecosystem growth. These tokens will be unlocked linearly over 4 years starting from TGE.
* 5% of total supply is for liquidity provision.
* Finally, 8.75% of total supply is for core contributors, who are **locked for a total of 4 years** (12-month cliff followed by 3 year linear unlock) starting from TGE.

You can only enter a referral code *before* generating your own. Once you've created your code, that option is locked. This helps prevent system abuse, such as referral loops, multi-level schemes, or other malicious behavior.

**If you enter someone else’s referral code, you’ll earn 1,000 bonus dots.** It’s a win-win: you get a 1,000 dot bonus, and the person who referred you earns 10% of the dots you collect.

### **Registration Badge Eligibility Criteria**

Only .sol domain registrations made after **May 1, 00:00 UTC** are eligible.&#x20;

#### Stage 1: Domain Collector

There are five badge tiers: Bronze, Solver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. The more domains you register, the higher your tier — and the bigger your rewards.

Badges are verified automatically. The system checks for updates every 1 minute, so if you just registered a domain, give it a moment for your badge to appear.

*Stage 1 closed on June 12, 2025.*

#### **Stage 2: Domain Tycoon**

There are five milestones that are unlocking based on your cumulative spendings on .sol domain registrations. The more you spend on .sol domains, the larger your multiplier for Dots.

The tiers start with the minimum exchange rate of $1 = 100 Dots and go to the maximum exchange rate of $1 = 140 Dots. Each tier increases the exchange rate by +10 Dots per $1.

All Stage 1 participants will seamlessly transition to Stage 2 with their complete spending history preserved. Early adopters actually benefit more because their Stage 1 spending counts toward their Stage 2 milestone progression, giving them a head start on achieving higher reward tiers.

**How do the milestone tiers work exactly?**&#x20;

The system uses cumulative tier calculations with a maximum of 5 tiers:

* you earn 100 Dots per $1 for the first $1000
* 110 Dots per $1 for the next $500
* 120 Dots per $1 for the next $500
* 130 Dots per $1 for the next $500
* and finally, 140 Dots per $1 for the remaining $500.&#x20;

Once you reach $2500+ spending, all additional spending earns at the maximum rate of 140 Dots per $1.

### Solana Network Badge Eligibility Criteria

Network Badges recognize SNS partners and active supporters of the broader Solana ecosystem. During the LFG campaign, a random snapshot will be taken to verify long-term supporters of each community.

You’ll be eligible for network badges if you meet all requirements at the time of the snapshot.

* **Madlads:** You held a `madlads.sol` subdomain *and* had the Madlads role in the SNS Discord.
* **SMB Gen2:** You held a `monkedao.sol` subdomain *and* had the SMB Gen2 role in SNS Discord.
* **SMB Gen3:** You held a `monkedao.sol` subdomain *and* had the SMB Gen3 role in SNS Discord.&#x20;
* **SOL Staker:** You held more than 10 JupSOL, JitoSOL, and/or mSOL *and* had the SOL Stake role in the SNS Discord.

* Subdomains are **not** eligible.
* Referral points earned by ineligible wallets will **not** contribute to referral bonuses for referrers. Examples:
  * You invited someone who earns referral points but does not own a .sol domain.
  * You earned referral Dots but do not own a domain nor have a Solana Network badge.
  * You created multiple wallets to abuse referrals. In such cases, Dots will be removed.

* Alice owns a .sol domain at the time of the snapshot and actively participated in the LFG Campaign activities.

* Brian owns a .sol domain and, at the time of the snapshot, listed it on the SNS marketplace.

* Cindy holds a Solana Network badge, and owns a .sol domain which is listed on Tensor at the time of the snapshot.

* Elle owns a .sol domain and, at the time of the snapshot, listed it on Magic Eden. Elle does not have a Solana Network badge.

  ❌ Not eligible
* Fred invites Gary using his referral link. Gary’s wallet is later flagged as ineligible. Gary’s referral points will not count towards Fred’s bonus.

* John creates multiple wallets to claim referral points. These wallets do not meet eligibility requirements (e.g., no valid .sol purchase). The points from these wallets are removed and do not count toward his bonus.

<summary>Liveness Check &#x26; FAQ</summary>

If your wallet is eligible, you will still need to pass a liveness check in order to claim $SNS successfully. This requirement helps keep the claiming process fair for real users and makes it harder for bots to take unfair advantage.

If you fail the liveness check, you will not be able to claim $SNS. Any unclaimed or unclaimable tokens will return to the Ecosystem Growth pool for future campaigns, partnerships, and programs that benefit the entire community.

**Q: My wallet is eligible. Can I still claim?**

If your wallet meets the snapshot criteria, you are eligible. You will be able to claim so long as you successfully pass the liveness check. Anti-Sybil protections are intended to ensure claims are made by genuine participants.

**Q: What are “anti-Sybil protections”?**

These include a liveness check and additional measures we have put in place to prevent large-scale abuse and automated claiming. We cannot share all the precautionary measures we are taking as doing so will likely increase the chance of circumvention by bad actors but please rest assured that we are doing our best.

**Q: Are you changing the rules?**

No. The snapshot list and eligibility criteria remain exactly as posted. Anti-Sybil protections will apply to the *claiming process*, not the eligibility list.

**Q: Why not block multi-wallet abusers now?**

We share the concern about multi-wallet abusers, but rushing to block wallets isn’t as simple as it sounds. Blunt and broad rules, hastily applied, risk cutting out legitimate users and damaging trust in other ways. Many users in Web3 hold multiple wallets, so the snapshot counted all eligible wallets equally. Changing that after the fact is retroactive and unfair. Our focus now is preventing automated or abusive claims and building detection that nails actual abusers without burning the honest ones.

**Q: Will the anti-Sybil protections affect future campaigns?**

We intend these protections to apply to all future SNS activities to keep them fair and fun.

**Q: What if my claim is blocked in error?**

Contact support via [our Discord server](https://discord.sns.id/). While protections apply equally to all wallets, we aim to review and resolve any legitimate case quickly and fairly.

## Welcome to the SNS

The Solana Name Service (SNS) has a simple mission of providing a decentralized and affordable way to map domain names (represented as **.sol**) to on-chain data. Where on-chain data can be anything from a Solana (SOL) address to IPFS CID, images, text, and more.

One of the clear benefits of the name service is a human-readable name that maps to a SOL address. Essentially, it creates an identity for users on-chain and is most commonly known to facilitate crypto payments.&#x20;

SNS is much more than this though. Naming is a convention that we are all used to. You dial your contacts and do not type in a phone number every time. We talk about things and people by referring to their names; Solana and blockchains for that matter shouldn't be any different.

SNS strives to be more than just your everyday domain name provider, we're building infrastructure to bring web3 personalities to life, nevertheless, make them the preference. Solana has the technology and we have the dedicated team to first and foremost humanize the blockchain and then continue expanding the possibilities of decentralized domain names.

## Certified Emojis & Variation Selectors&#x20;

Certain emojis or domain names can include a variation selector (unicode): **U+FE0F** or **U+FE0E**, which is used by your browser to know whether the emojis should be displayed as texts or images. However, some emojis are displayed the same as text and image. This can lead to people owning different domain names that read the same (e.g 😀  with and without a variation selector).&#x20;

Some people may use these unicodes to scam and mislead buyers. That is, selling a domain name that perceives to be legitimate by eye, but after inspection, prevails to be a domain with a fake version of an emoji, for example.

**In an attempt to prevent users from getting scammed by these domains, the marketplace by default does not show domains with suspect unicodes, unless searched for directly and our site will display a warning sign.**

# Register

**An unregistered domain is one that has never been owned by anyone before.**

To register a domain, connect your favorite wallet to the website and search for the domain name you want. In this example we have used **registersol.sol** and this domain appears to be unregistered.

Sometimes, when searching for a .sol domain on [sns.id](https://www.sns.id/), you may find that the domain you're interested in is already registered. However, it might still be available for purchase at a fixed price on the SNS Marketplace or other secondary marketplaces.

## Set up profile

To provide additional details about yourself as the owner of a specific .sol domain, visit your domains' page on [sns.id](https://www.sns.id/), select the domain you want to edit and click the <kbd>Set Up Profile</kbd> button.

You will be prompted to fill in information such as your avatar URL, website, social media handles and more. These fields allow other users to connect with you more easily.

## Create subdomains

A subdomain is a subset of your parent domain name. You can create an infinite number of subdomains per parent domain. Use these subdomains for fund transferring, distribute (transfer) them amongst your friends and/or help organize and navigate to different sections of your parent domain.

Visit your profile page, select the domain you would like to create a subdomain for. Click the <kbd>Create Subdomain</kbd> button of the domain you chose and enter the subdomain you would like to create.

Click <kbd>Confirm</kbd> and approve the wallet transaction. Once approved, you will be able to view your subdomain/s under **Subdomains** section of your domain.

## Transfer domains

If you own a domain, you can transfer it peer to peer by using the **Transfer** function. This is also useful when you want to move your domain to a different wallet. Open the **Advanced** section of your domain, click <kbd>Transfer</kbd> and enter the wallet address (or a .sol domain) to which you want to transfer it to.

## Wrap your domain

Domain names can be tokenized (create an NFT) and redeemed to reveal the real domain name at any time. This process is called wrapping (tokenizing) and unwrapping (redeeming) a domain name.

When users wrap their domain name:

1. The domain name is transferred to an escrow account;
2. The smart contract creates an NFT that is transferred to the user in return;
3. When the NFT is unwrapped again, the program will burn the NFT and return the domain name to the owner.

**Users can wrap and unwrap their domain names a limitless number of times.**

**Metaplex does not support NFTs with names with more than 32 UTF-8 characters. Therefore domain names over a certain length cannot be wrapped.**

**Domains mixing several languages & domains with uncertified unicodes cannot be wrapped into an NFT.**

Wrapping your domain as an NFT means a few things:

* Funds transferring is complicated depending on the wallet you are using.
* You cannot edit the content of your domain.
* You cannot transfer your domain.

**You would need to unwrap your domain on our website to retrieve your actual domain with all its use cases**

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Phantom and Solflare support wrapped domains, so you will receive the funds directly to your wallet address if the tokens were sent to NFT domain.**

**In other cases, if funds are sent to an NFT domain, you can recover them upon unwrapping the domain again.**

**Funds will be recovered by the last user who unwraps the domain. This means if you had funds sent to your NFT domain, unwrap it first to recover your funds, before selling it as an NFT again.**

This function is mostly used to list your domain on an NFT marketplace. Open the domain you want to wrap, select **Domain Settings**, click the <kbd>Wrap into NFT</kbd> button and confirm the transactions. If you have wrapped your domain name, you can find it under "NFTs" in your collection on your profile page.

**When you wrap a domain into an NFT for the first time the initial cost will total \~0.01719 SOL, which covers metadata account creation, the Metaplex fee and gas cost.**

## Set as primary

## Transacting with SNS

The Solana Name Service is supported by most, if not all, of the popular wallets on Solana. Amongst other use cases that can be found under [List of Integrations](/collection/sns-v2/list-of-integrations), transacting with your .sol is the most popular.

You can send SPL tokens and native SOL directly using a **.sol domain** or **Twitter handle** instead of using an address.

## Resolving websites with SNS

### In-house resolver

Go to your domain collection and click on the domain you'd like to resolve. Click the <kbd>Edit</kbd> button in the **Others** section to edit the records of your domain.&#x20;

The resolver supports (1) URLs (for that, edit the **General** section), (2) IPFS CIDs & (3) Arweave hashes. Choose what you would like to resolve and enter it accordingly.

### Brave example

[Brave](https://brave.com/)'s integration allows you to resolve domain names natively. This means no gateway or extension is needed — just your .sol domain name in the URL tab.

Follow the steps above and edit either the URL or IPFS record section of the domain. Sign the transaction and you are good to go.

Go to Brave Browser and type your .sol just as it is in the URL tab and watch your website resolve.

# Sol.site

Extend your .sol domain's utility to web 2

## Overview

**Sol.site** is a dedicated gateway that connects your Web3 domain to the traditional Web2 internet. While your `.sol` domain operates seamlessly within the Solana ecosystem, the traditional internet (DNS) does not natively recognize blockchain domains.

Sol.site bridges this gap by provisioning a standard Web2 subdomain (**`.sol.site`**) for eligible `.sol` domains. This architecture empowers users to **host web content** and **configure email servers** directly under their domain name. By mapping on-chain records to standard DNS infrastructure, users can establish a functional web presence and communication channels without relying on specialized browser extensions or resolution tools.

# How it works

The Sol.site infrastructure operates as a specialized DNS resolver that interfaces directly with the Solana Name Service (SNS) registry.

When a client queries a `.sol.site` domain, the resolution layer fetches the associated DNS records stored on-chain within the domain's registry entry. This architecture translates decentralized domain data into standard Web2 DNS responses, ensuring full compatibility with existing browser clients and email servers without requiring client-side extensions or specialized resolution software.

#### Example 3: Squads

Purchase a .sol domain using SquadsX web-extension:

## 4. Disclaimer: Certified Emojis & Variation Selectors&#x20;

Certain emojis or domain names can include a variation selector (unicode): **U+FE0F** or **U+FE0E**, which is used by your browser to know whether the emojis should be displayed as texts or images. However, some emojis are displayed the same as text and image. This can lead to people owning different domain names that read the same (e.g 😀  with and without a variation selector).&#x20;

Some people may use these unicodes to scam and mislead buyers. That is, selling a domain name that perceives to be legitimate by eye, but after inspection, prevails to be a domain with a fake version of an emoji, for example.

**In an attempt to prevent users from getting scammed by these domains, the marketplace by default does not show domains with suspect unicodes, unless searched for directly and our site wikl display a warning sign.**

An unregistered domain is one that has never been owned by anyone before.&#x20;

Search for the domain name you want. In this example I have used **"snsavailable.sol**" and this domain appears to be unregistered

How to list and buy domains on the secondary market

Platform Fees

Trading on sns.id follows a maker-taker fee schedule. Simply put, makers create liquidity on the platform and takers reduce the available liquidity

**When someone places a category bid they increase liquidity by creating more selling opportunities and therefore a "maker". If someone sells into the category bid, they reduce the number of selling opportunities thus decreasing liquidity and are described as a "taker"**

## Fee tier

Fees charged on sns.id are tier-based depending on the user's $FIDA holdings. Holding over a certain amount of $FIDA will either reduce the taker fees charged or rebate makers a fee&#x20;

### 1.1 To buy

To **buy a** domain for a fixed price visit go to "[Browse domains](https://v1.sns.id/listings)" and select Listed domains. Search for your perfect domain either by browsing or making use of the filters

Add the domain to your cart and proceed to checkout. You can add multiple domains to your cart for checkout. Once purchased, all domains will automatically be linked to the purchasing wallet address

### 1.2 To sell

Visit your profile page in the top right corner. If you have not yet, connect your wallet first

Click on the domain you would like to list for a fixed price. Then select "List". Opt for the fixed-price resell method and choose the currency & the price you would like to list for

If you want to sell several domains in one go, you can group them in a bundle. Click on the domain you want to start with, click "List" button and choose "Create bundle". Alternatively, you can start creating your bundle from the Actions tab in your Profile

## 2. Category offers

### 2.1 To place offers

Under "Browse domains" navigate to "Categories". There you will see a `Place category bid` button

Here you will be able to place bids for entire categories to get a domain name demarcated under the categories you placed a bid on

Select the category(s) you want to place a bid on. In the next step, enter the amount of SOL you are willing to bid for a **single** domain and then the number of domains you are looking to buy at that price

### 2.2 To accept offers

The page displays categories that have bids placed on them. From the landing page, this is denoted by an `instant sell` button

If you own any domains in that category you will be able to sell into it. Click instant sell and then the domain(s) you want to sell

## **3. Unsolicited offers**

To place an unsolicited offer is a passive way to obtain a domain. Across the platform, you will notice a `Make offer` option when viewing domains. Any user my place an offer on a domain name, whether it is up for sale or not. Simply select the size of your offer to commit

You may very well **receive** offers for the domains you own as well. So be sure to check your offers often

## 4. Peer-to-peer trading

### 4.1 Initiating

On your profile select the P2P Trade button and enter the wallet address or domain name of the person you want to initiate a trade offer with

Next, choose the domains **you want** from your counterparty. You can opt to either just trade domains or increase the offer by opting for your counterparty to add SOL to the trade. In this example, I want to receive both `🔥🦅.sol` and `0,01 SOL` for the trade. After that select your domains (and SOL, if any) you want to trade

Lastly, review the trade summary and add an expiration date if you want. At the bottom of the summary, you will see the service fee which is charged to the trade initiator. Click "Confirm" to finalize it

### 4.2 Accepting a P2P trade

To see if you have a P2P trade - "View profile" and navigate to the "Offers" tab. There you can filter out the offers by the type, so filter it to see only P2P Offers. You can view a trade summary by clicking on the three dots icon. Here you can either accept, reject or make a counteroffer for the trade

### 5.2 Sell

To see your domain on an NFT marketplace, you first have to wrap your domain into an NFT. Visit your profile, select the domain you want to sell and click the "Wrap into NFT" button

Now visit your favorite marketplace and list your domain like you would with any other NFT

# Records

Records are your gateway to opening up the identity layer of .sol domain names. Our management of staleness and right of association is one of the best among decentralized domain names - which allows you to seamlessly build the bridge between your web2 and web3 identities

**Staleness:** This ensures that the content of the record is set by the current owner of the domain. If a record is set by Bob and sold to Alice, the record content becomes stale and invalid

**Right of Association:** This prevents impersonation. Right of association guarantees that the record content is owned by the domain. For instance for the ETH record, this guarantees that the domain owner is the legitimate owner of the ETH address written in the record

Alternatively, you can manage records for any of the domains you own on [v1.sns.id](https://v1.sns.id/).

Set your records so people can find you, dapps can integrate them into profiles and enable you the best profiling experience

## Setting a record

View a domain you want to set a record(s) for and dropdown the "Records" section

Select the edit icon of the record you wish to add. Once added and the transactions are signed you'll see a badge saying the record has been signed by the owner

When you sell or transfer this domain the record will no longer be set by the current owner. Hence the record would be marked as stale (see the warning sign). This means dApps cannot aggregate this information and the new user can just delete and/or set a new record

## ETH records & RoA

With right of association, we prevent impersonation. For example, with an ETH record, we want to ensure the .sol owner is the legitimate owner of the ETH address

Verifying your ETH address RoA allows your peers and dApps to have confidence that you own the ETH address set&#x20;

The verification for this record is unique but simple.&#x20;

Enter your ETH record, click on the verify button and you'll be prompted to follow a step-by-step guide to verify your record

## SOL records

Records V2 supports Ledger for SOL records. The intention for this is to be able to store your domain safely but still use it on-chain as usual

To start, I'd first transfer my domain to my Ledger wallet and then connect with Ledger to the sns.id site

Once connected edit the SOL record to a hot wallet address that you would like to receive funds to

In the second image, you will see that the "Record content is not verified". For you to receive funds to that address, that pubkey would need to sign to accept it (assuming that you would want to receive to your own address this is pretty simple)

Now, use the SOL record address (that is the address you entered in the SOL record) to connect to sns.id

Search for the domain name and dropdown "Records"

Once there, you will see a button to verify the record. The only address that will see this "verify" button is the one set in the SOL record. Given that this address signs it, you will see both badges verified

This means you can now store your domain in Ledger while receiving funds to your .sol to another address

## URL/CNAME records

Your .sol domain can resolve to a DNS domain via URL or CNAME record. This can be done natively on the [Brave browser](https://brave.com/), or through a proxy service called [sol-domain.org](https://github.com/Bonfida/name-resolver)

**Proof of Ownership**&#x20;

Verifying ownership of your URL record is optional, and can't be done if, for instance, you'd like to set the record as your X (Twitter) profile link or other social media profile

The CNAME record requires proof of ownership verification, so it can only be set to a DNS domain controlled by you

The verification process is the same for both URL and CNAME records&#x20;

To verify ownership of a DNS domain, go to your DNS provider and access your domain's settings. You'd need to enable DNSSEC then (1) add a TXT record with the name "\_sns" and (2) set the value as "a=pubkey". The pubkey is the wallet address holding your .sol domain

# Manage Your Domains

Discover different ways to manage your domain portfolio

## 1. Favorite domain

Setting a single domain as your favorite one will signal to other projects and users what your most frequently used domain is. Thus, making it easier for developers to set a default domain name that will automatically display on all SNS-integrated platforms

Set your favorite domain on your profile page by clicking "View" on your preferred domain. Select the favorite domain icon

## 2. Create subdomains

A subdomain is a subset of your parent domain name. You can create an infinite number of subdomains per parent domain. Use these subdomains for fund transferring, distribute (transfer) them amongst your friends and/or help organize and navigate to different sections of your parent domain

Visit your profile page and select "View" of the domain you would like to create a subdomain for. Click on the "Create subdomain" icon of the domain you chose

Enter the subdomain you would like to create. Click create and approve the wallet transaction. Once approved, you will be able to view your subdomain/s under "Subdomains" of your domain or collection

## 3. Create Registrar

You can also create a subdomain registrar to issue subdomains for a certain .sol domain, i.e. distributing them amongst your community, project, etc. This also helps if you're planning on monetizing them

Open your profile page and select the domain for which you want to create a subdomain registrar. Click on the "Create Registrar" button

To create the subdomain registrar:

1. Enter the wallet address in the "Admin address" field which will be managing the registrar and in the "Fee address" which will be collecting the fees from registrations

**The owner of a .sol domain is set as a default wallet address for the admin and fee fields**

**Once you add another wallet address as an Admin address, the admin rights will be transferred from you to that address with the ability to manage the registrar**

2. Choose the registration token from the list, or add a custom one. For that, you'll need to enter a custom token mint address
3. Enter the pricing tiers based on the subdomain length

**You can edit all of the above even after creating the registrar**

4. At the bottom, you need to choose whether you want to allow the admin to revoke subdomains or not. After enabling this feature, users will be able to register subdomains on sns.id only if the registrar is whitelisted to avoid abuse

5. Lastly, you can enable gating behind the NFT of your choice. This will allow users to register subdomains only if they own NFT from a certain collection. You can also set a certain number of registrations allowed per NFT owned by the user

Once everything is set, click on the "Create" button and sign the transaction.

After that, you will be able to view the registrar page where users will register their subdomains and check the subdomains that are already registered

To manage or delete your registrar, open your profile page and click on the "Registrar" tab. For editing, click on the edit button. Here, you can change the settings and disable new registrations if needed

## 4. Transfer domains

If you own a domain you can transfer the domain peer to peer by using the "Transfer" function. This is also useful when you want to move your domain to a different wallet. Click on the "Transfer" button and enter the wallet address to which you want to transfer it to

## 5. Wrap your domain

Domain names can be tokenized (create an NFT) and redeemed to reveal the real domain name at any time. This process is called wrapping (tokenizing) and unwrapping (redeeming) a domain name

When users wrap their domain name:

1. The domain name is transferred to an escrow account
2. And the smart contract creates an NFT that is transferred to the user in return
3. When the NFT is unwrapped again, the program will burn the NFT and return the domain name to the owner&#x20;

**Users can wrap and unwrap their domain names a limitless number of times**&#x20;

**Metaplex does not support NFTs with names with more than 32 UTF-8 characters. Therefore domain names over a certain length cannot be wrapped**

**Domains mixing several languages & domains with uncertified unicodes cannot be wrapped into an NFT**

Wrapping your domain as an NFT means a few things:

1. Funds transferring is complicated depending on the wallet you are using
2. You cannot edit the content of your domain
3. You cannot transfer your domain

**You would need to unwrap your domain on our website to retrieve your actual domain with all its use cases**

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Phantom and Solflare support wrapped domains, so you will receive the funds directly to your wallet address if the tokens were sent to NFT domain.**\
\
**In other cases, if funds are sent to an NFT domain, you can recover them upon unwrapping the domain again.**

**Funds will be recovered by the last user who unwraps the domain. This means if you had funds sent to your NFT domain, unwrap it first to recover your funds, before selling it as an NFT again**

This function is mostly used to [list your domain on an NFT marketplace](https://docs.sns.id/collection/sns-v1/pages/h7JmrRj9vBlqFSjak37A#5.-nft-marketplace). View your domains, select the wrap button and confirm the transactions. If you have wrapped your domain name you can find it under "NFTs" in your collection on your profile page

**When you wrap a domain into an NFT for the first time the initial cost will total `~0.01719`SOL which covers metadata account creation, the Metaplex fee and gas cost**

Your domain name details serve as your bio for that specific domain. If you are a keen seller enter your email or X handle. Changing your "bio" is simple. View the domain of your choice, drop details, edit the content and sign the transaction

# Manage Your Profile

## 1. Get notified

Turn on notifications to keep track of the sales and offers by clicking on the bell icon on sns.id.\
\
Firstly, sign the message to verify your wallet. It's free of charge and doesn't involve changes to the network.

## 4. Change your profile picture

Add a profile picture for your domain name so partner dapps can aggregate this information when integrating SNS

Got to your profile and click on the edit profile picture icon then simply add an image URL

## 5. Bookmark domains

This feature allows you to bookmark domains that you like on the marketplace. In this manner, you can check the status of these domain names easily on your profile page at a later stage

Click on the bookmark icon and it will turn white to indicate that it has been marked. You can find bookmarked domains under "Bookmarked" on your profile page

# Cross-Chain Domain (Experimental)

A tutorial on how to bridge your .sol domain name to another chain via our Wormhole integration

Building a cross-chain name service is an unprecedented innovation in the blockchain space. This allows users to transact using a single domain name across multiple chains, simplifying transactions and enhancing user experience. The long-term vision is to have a universally accepted domain name that can be used everywhere, fostering greater interoperability and interconnectedness among chains part of the Wormhole bridge

There are two methods of bridging a domain, (1) bridging a domain from Solana and (2) registering domain names directly on a non-Solana chain

## Bridging your domain

In the instance where you already own a domain and want to bridge it, or if register a domain on a non-Solana chain is not available, you will follow this approach

To bridge your domain to a non-Solana chain, connect your wallet and view your profile. Click on a domain you want to bridge

Click the `Next` button and copy the message indicated. Navigate over to the Etherscan link in step 1. Once there, select the `Sign Message` button indicated below.

You will be prompted to connect your wallet. Connect the EVM wallet address associated with your Injective address. Then paste the message you copied on sns.id

Sign the message and copy the `Signature Hash` indicated below

Hop back over your sns.id tab, go to step 3 and paste the hash. Select next to complete the transaction. When completed you have officially bridged your domain. To double-check you can drop the record section of the domain and have a look at the `INJ` record

### Change resolving address

On the injective.sns.id you can change the domain's resolving address. This means you are changing the funds' receiving address but not the domain's owner. The owner of the domain can change the resolving address at any time again

Open the modal in the top right-hand corner, click the `Edit` button and insert the new receiving address - then complete the transaction

### Transfer domain

Transferring a domain to another Injective address would change the owner of the domain. Click `Addr.` , enter the new owner's address and complete the transaction

### Send to Solana

If you want to send your domain to Solana you would select the `Sol.` button. Enter your Solana wallet address and confirm the transaction. After a successful transfer to Solana, you can visit <https://v1.sns.id/> and connect with the Solana wallet you transferred it to to find your domain. This domain will now function as any .sol domain

## Handling Fees

Bridging a domain costs more in gas than a normal transaction. Hold at least 0.1 SOL in your wallet to ensure the transactions are successful

* Cranking fee
* Normal base transaction fee


# Using SNS

1\. Transacting with SNS

The Solana Name Service is supported by most, if not all, of the popular wallets on Solana

Amongst other use cases that can be found under List of Integrations - transacting with your .sol is amongst the most popular

You can send SPL tokens and native SOL directly using a **.sol domain** or **Twitter handle** instead of using an address

#### Transacting with a .sol domain

To send tokens to someone using their .sol domain you need to enter `<domain_name>.sol` in the "Recipient's SOL Address" field. If the domain name is not registered it will display as below after clicking "Next"

### 2.2 Brave example

[Brave](https://brave.com/)'s integration allows you to resolve domain names natively. This means no gateway or extension is needed - just your .sol domain name in the URL tab

Follow the steps above and edit either the URL or IPFS record section of the domain. Sign the transaction and you are good to go

Go to Brave Browser and type your .sol just as it is in the URL tab and watch your website resolve

# X Handle Registration

SNS is a primitive of Solana that allows the mapping of names to a Solana account. This permits many things including associating your Twitter handle to your Solana address.

## Twitter handles & .sol domain names <a href="#id-1663" id="id-1663"></a>

Both Twitter handles and .sol domain names are a part of SNS, yet are slightly different. A Twitter handle can only be claimed by the owner of the Twitter account. In order to guarantee this, the user needs to tweet the wallet address they want to associate with the account and then sign a transaction using the same wallet address.&#x20;

To send and receive payments via your Twitter handle, you need to register it at <https://v1.sns.id/twitter>

### Unregister your Twitter handle

If you want to link a new or different handle to a wallet address that already has a Twitter handle linked, you would first have to unregister the current handle. There are two options to unregister your Twitter handle

#### Option 1

Go to <https://v1.sns.id/twitter> and select "Unlink"

# Community Voting

Learn how to join SNS community votes

As SNS continues to evolve, it’s important that the community has a clear way to share input on key topics. Community voting gives **$SNS holders** the ability to participate in select proposals that help shape the .sol ecosystem.

This is not a DAO in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s a **community-driven voting model** built around participation, accountability and transparency.

## How It Works

All proposals are hosted on [Realms](https://v2.realms.today/dao/EkPbpAe3vNjuPH1xzNQb7X6D8kr9J6ums5LGPu14Q2VR/proposals). The voting process follows three key stages:

1. **Proposal Review Period**
   * Each proposal first enters a **5-day review period**.
   * During this time, participants can read the proposal in detail, discuss its implications and raise questions or concerns.
   * No votes are cast during this stage — the focus is entirely on review and discussion.
2. **Voting Period**
   * After the review period ends, voting opens for **3 days**.
   * To participate, you must deposit your $SNS tokens on Realms.
   * Each deposited token counts as one vote, meaning your voting power is proportional to your $SNS balance.

**However, if you withdraw before the 3-day voting period ends, your ballot becomes invalid and your vote will not be counted.**

3. **Finalization**
   * After the 3-day voting window closes, votes are tallied.
   * If quorum is reached and one side has the majority, the proposal passes.

**For SNS, quorum is set at 1% of the $SNS supply fraction, which is defined as 1B $SNS.**

**A quorum on Realms is the minimum percentage of tokens that must vote 'Yes' for a proposal to be considered valid.**

**If participation is below this threshold, the proposal fails automatically, even if one side has a clear majority.**

# Anti-Squatting Program

Imagine searching for `solana.sol` in your browser only to be redirected to a scam site or one misrepresenting the organization entirely. Even worse you’re fooled in an altruistic attempt to act charitably for a cause Solana is collecting funds for. You sent the funds to an internet troll fully understanding the art of conning. You may have fallen victim to a domain name squatter.

No, this is not someone acting in good faith by trading a domain but instead impersonating and taking advantage of shareholders’ interests.

Let’s dig into domain name squatting, what is this exactly?

## What is squatting?

Domain squatting is the practice of registering, buying and/or using domain names with the **intent** of victimizing, profiting or impersonating other people’s trademarks, projects or well-known identities. Furthermore, the squatter holds on to the domain, exploiting the victim to purchase the domain at a ridiculously inflated price. Some pay this, in fear that damage may be imposed on their reputation or their community. Inadvertently affecting the adoption of your favorite TLD if the squatter does not want to sell it to the “deserving” users. Never mind the other counterparties that may have lost funds or been fooled in the meantime.

*The practice of registering, using and misrepresenting a domain name, with a bad faith intent to exploit or profit from the popularity of a trademark, project or established identity belonging to someone else.*

The core ingredient in the making of a squatter is their bad faith, whether it be with opportunistic or malicious intent.

### Note the difference between a trader

Of course, not all initiatives to buy a popular domain are considered “squatting”. Squatting differs from trading. So, it’s important to note where the line should be drawn. As described above, it really all comes down to the **intent**. Buying a domain speculating on its potential value for a various number of buyers based on habits, interests and trends is completely condoned (if not encouraged). Then, reselling these to the highest bidder or for a profit is really why we do this. It’s creative, risky and fun!

Scope the difference between [tom.sol](https://tom.sol) and [tomholland.sol](https://tomholland.sol), for example.

Flipping domains is a legitimate example of being a trader - based on its potential and demand to resell it at a higher price by marketing and optimizing its content.

Once again, bad faith goes right to the heart of domain name squatting.

## How do I know I’m a squatter or a victim of squatting?

An easy way to answer this is with another question?

Squatter: *is there only one true buyer for your domain?*

Victim: *can someone else owning the domain inflict harm on your business and/or clients through misrepresentation or theft?*

Simple.

## Preventative measures <a href="#an-ounce-of-prevention-for-domain-squatting" id="an-ounce-of-prevention-for-domain-squatting"></a>

Avoidance. That probably sounds like a silly one, “if you don’t want to become an alcoholic don’t drink” right?

However, there is some truth in this. It is easier to avoid becoming a victim of squatting than it is to recover the status. We suggest the following:

1. **Register or buy the domain before you need it**

**Buy a domain when your idea is merely a concept. Relatively, the cost is small compared to recovery. You can always resell your domain.**

**Buy domains from different TLD providers and buy similar names to prevent misrepresentation/exploitation. Even consider registering common misspellings and make careful consideration.**

Contribute to the Solana Name Service community for a reward

Solana Name Service is regularly receiving suggestions for new features to be added or certain projects to be developed. We try our best to meet all of these demands, however, in certain circumstances, we cannot deliver it all and in other cases, it makes more sense for projects to be community-driven.

It’s exciting to see our community members contribute to the SNS ecosystem and if properly done, we have no hesitation in granting these members rewards for their efforts. Contributions can be in the form of, but not limited to, developing projects, integrations, marketing media, or BD work. As long as the work is beneficial and meaningful to the SNS community.

## How to apply for a grant

#### Step 1: Join the Community

Join either our [Discord ](https://discord.sns.id/)or [Telegram](https://t.me/snsdotsol) community. Once you're in, reach out to any admin or team member to express your interest in applying for a grant.

#### Step 2: Share a One-Page Proposal

Prepare a short, one-page proposal that includes:

* **Project Overview:** what you're building and the idea behind it.
* **Ecosystem Benefit:** how your project supports or grows the SNS ecosystem.
* **Requested Grant Size:** the amount of funding you're seeking and how you plan to use it.

#### Step 3: Review Process

If the grant is large, we may consider unlocking it linearly over a certain timeframe.

The SNS Bug Bounty Program is set to incentivize responsible bug disclosure by our users. This program prioritizes bugs detected in the Bonfida smart contracts and is not focused on UI bugs.&#x20;

Appropriate rewards will be distributed to users detecting medium to critical severity bugs on the core contracts of SNS.

We have partnered with the leading web3 bug bounty platform, **Immunefi**, to host this.

1. Provision of KYC is required to receive a reward.&#x20;
